From 30 March 2026, Slimming World is increasing its weekly group fees. Standard membership (18+) rises from £5.95 to £6.95, and the senior rate (60+) moves from £5.65 to £6.65.

For members, it’s £1 more per week. For consultants, it’s worth taking a moment to understand what this means for your annual turnover — and whether it brings you any closer to an important tax milestone.

What does the increase mean for your income?

An extra £1 per member per week might not sound significant, but across a full year it adds up. For every 100 members you see each week, the fee rise alone generates an additional £5,200 in annual turnover. Across multiple groups, that figure grows quickly.

Here’s how the additional income from the £1 rise breaks down depending on your group sizes:

Members per group 1 group 2 groups 3 groups
25 members+£1,300+£2,600+£3,900
50 members+£2,600+£5,200+£7,800
75 members+£3,900+£7,800+£11,700
100 members+£5,200+£10,400+£15,600

For a consultant running three busy groups of 100 members, the fee change alone adds £15,600 to annual turnover. That’s a meaningful shift — and it’s on top of any membership growth you’ve seen over the year.

Understanding the VAT threshold

In the UK, any self-employed person whose taxable turnover exceeds £90,000 in a rolling 12-month period must register for VAT. This is based on your gross income — not your profit — so it’s important to track your total fees coming in, not just what you take home after expenses.

The VAT test also doesn’t reset at the end of the tax year. HMRC looks back across any rolling 12-month window, which means a period of strong membership growth could trigger registration even if your year-end figure looks comfortable.

Where do consultants stand at the new rates?

Using the new standard rate of £6.95 per week, here’s what annual turnover looks like across typical group sizes:

Members per group 1 group 2 groups 3 groups
25 members£9,035£18,070£27,105
50 members£18,070£36,140£54,210
75 members£27,105£54,210£81,315
100 members£36,140£72,280£108,420 ⚠️

For most consultants running one or two groups, the VAT threshold is not an immediate concern. Even two groups of 100 members generates £72,280 per year — below the £90,000 limit, though worth keeping an eye on as membership grows.

The picture changes for consultants running three groups. Three groups of 100 members puts annual turnover at £108,420 — well over the threshold. Even three groups of 75 members produces £81,315, which is close enough that natural membership growth over the coming months could push you over.

Note: These calculations do not include any additional income which you may take in group, such as

  • Countdown Voucher Extensions
  • Shop Sales (not hifi or magazines, these are treated differently)
  • Inter-consultant sales (such as group cover)

What should you do?

If you’re running three groups, or two well-attended groups where membership is growing, now is a good time to review your position. The March fee increase is a natural prompt to:

  • Calculate your current rolling 12-month turnover (you can do this within Pulse)
  • Consider whether membership growth could push you further towards £90,000
  • Speak to our team if your annual turnover is approaching £80,000 or above
