Royal Mail has confirmed that stamp prices will be increasing on Monday 2 October for all main services – except standard second class.
The price rise includes a 14% increase in pricing for first class standard letters, bringing the cost of a first class stamp from £1.10 to £1.25.
In addition, large letters (usually bigger than a card or simple letter) are increasing in price – the largest change to second-class large letters is a 35% increase.
Type | Size | Current Price | New Price | Increase (%) |
---|---|---|---|---|
First | Standard | £1.10 | £1.25 | 15p (14%) |
First | Large | £1.60 | £1.95 | 35p (22%) |
Second | Standard | 75p | 75p | N/a |
Second | Large | £1.15 | £1.55 | 40p (35%) |
Other services, including ‘signed for’ and ‘special delivery Guaranteed’ will also increase, along with Parcelforce services.
The full price changes can be viewed here.
Any stamps purchased before 2 October 2023 will be available at the lower price – and still valid for postage once the price rises take place, meaning you can ‘lock in’ at the lower costs.
Royal Mail said “The cost of delivering an ever-decreasing number of letters to an ever-growing number of households six days a week is unsustainable.”
