How Pulse compares...

Choosing bookkeeping software is a big decision, especially with Making Tax Digital on the way. These pages put Pulse side by side with the software sole traders ask us about most, so you can see what each one costs and what you actually get for it.

  • each comparison is dated and links to the other company’s pricing
  • where another product would suit you better, we say so
  • every price includes VAT

Questions about switching

Can I switch to Pulse partway through the tax year?

Yes. When you join, you can add the earlier months of the tax year, so the whole year sits in Pulse ready for your updates and tax return.

I’m already in Making Tax Digital. What happens to my updates?

Each quarterly update is a running total from 6 April. Once your records are in Pulse, your next update covers the year so far, whichever software sent the earlier ones.

Is Pulse recognised by HMRC?

Yes. Pulse is recognised by HMRC for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, and our HMRC reference is D5P1NR. More about our HMRC recognition

How do you keep these comparisons fair?

We use each company’s own website, link to the pages we used, and show the date we checked. Prices and plans change, so if you spot something that’s out of date, let us know and we’ll put it right.
