PCS members at HMRC customer services have begun strike action over pay, pensions, job security and redundancy terms.
The strike action will specifically hit the Employer Helpline (EHL) the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) helpline, HMRC’s Webchat and the Student Loans Unit.
These strikes commenced on 10 May 2023 and will run until 2 June 2023.
One key issue is that this may cause issues around HMRC’s ability to handle P60s issuance for employees which are due by 31 May, and the 6 July deadline which is when P11D (benefits) are due, along with other HMRC key services.
HMRC has reduced customer service employees from 25,000 to 19,500 over the past five years.
