Where to find it
Open the Pulse app on your phone and tap Support in the bar along the bottom.
The Tax Knowledgebase is right there.
What you can do
- Search for anything. Type a word like mileage, phone, uniform or VAT, and Pulse lists the guides that match.
- Browse popular topics. Allowable expenses, mileage, payments on account, National Insurance, Making Tax Digital, VAT, working from home and your tax return are all one tap away.
- See everything from A to Z. If you’d rather have a browse, every guide is listed alphabetically.
- Check it’s up to date. Each guide shows the date it was last updated, so you know you’re reading the current rules.
We’re adding new guides and updating existing ones all the time, so it keeps growing.
A couple of examples
Jo is a mobile hairdresser. Between clients, she wants to check what she can claim for driving to people’s homes. She searches “mileage” and opens Cars, Vans and Mileage, which explains that she can claim 55p a mile for her first 10,000 business miles in the tax year, and 25p a mile after that.
Claire runs Slimming World groups and is thinking about renting a storage unit for her group equipment. She searches “storage” and finds Storage or office rental. It tells her the rent is an allowable expense, and that she should keep the receipts and invoices from the storage company for her tax return.
Both took less than a minute, standing in a car park!
